Rambling Again, and HAPPY 4th !

Today I would like to rant on a few things before I consider putting up a photo, which in the end I may not even do; we'll see what inspires me.

First, I must comment that I heard that Micheal Jackson's death has prompted 12 unfortunate souls to end their lives by suicide. I am not sure if this rumor is true, maybe someone else heard this? It seems so rediculous to me and so sad, that these people actually revolved their lives around another person, albeit a HOLLYWOOD person (whose lives are not much in reality) and then chose to stop theirs when this persons ended. There is too much importance placed on Hollywood, the media, and how this group of people lives their rich lives. Now trust me, I would love to be that rich. I was watching an episode of "Wife Swap" where one of the moms was so wealthy that the most important decision of her day was which of her sports cars to drive. I'm glad my life has work and purpose and meaning and all, but I want that to be my big decision!

Speaking of cars, I got a new one. I love it, and it suits me perfectly. I have graduated up about 17 years from my previous vehicle, which I will give to my son who is 16 and has his permit. I actually have air-conditioning now. WOO-HOO !! Never had that. I know, sad.

Subject of next rant: Minnesota Weather. Now as you are getting a chance to read this, maybe you live in Minnesota and are agreeing with me all the way...or maybe you live in another part of the country and your weather sucks also. If that is the case, please clue me in, since I dont watch any news or read the paper (its mostly just depressing anyway.) But our weather here this summer so far has been, in a word, PATHETIC. Every weekend it has either rained or been cold or cloudy. When we've gone camping its been cool and rainy and un-swimable. Now I'm giving this weekend another chance, and because its a holiday weekend and we all expect miracle weather for it, I'm hopeful that it will deliver. We are going camping and it BETTER not rain :)
But I feel like summer is draining away fast. Yesterday it was July 1st already and it was like 60 degrees.

In my line of work, apartment manager, that equals wonderful for NOT installing air conditioners on the first of the month when you're getting your butt kicked anyway with turnovers, BUT, it still isnt close to summer temps. So, Minnesota, I love ya, but you're being lame so far in the weather department (as if I should expect greatness from Minnesotas weather, as if its Arizona or something? Hello? Winters for 8 months a year?) Maybe thats why I'm complaining, because this last winter was SO LONG and we deserved the warm weather and sun so badly..and its slightly , no VERY disappointing when its this grey out.

Okay so I hear a warming is coming and sun will be out this afternoon, and by God it better deliver. I'm not sounding very optimistic, am I ?

Rant # 3: Carpet Cleaners.

I'm an apartment resident manager of almost 90 units. Thats about 200 residents with different wants and needs. When one family moves out, and another is moving in, its called a turn.

I must then assemble a staff of people to clean it, I paint it, and arrange to have the carpet cleaned. When someone, namely CARPET CLEANING COMPANIES drop the ball, it begins to tick me off. Especially when they drop the ball for 2 days. BUT, because I hear the owner had surgery, and he was medicated during these 2 days, I shall be a forgiving woman and put it all behind me that they didn't show up until the third day. As we speak the truck is parked on the lawn and rumbling away as the guy cleans the heavily-saturated-with-cooking-smells carpeting. The new folks will move in in just 5 hours with a good chance of having wet carpet :) YAY.
(as I type this, the guy who did the carpet came to my door and asked for my specific address so the owner can send me something. An apology card? :) Maybe a million dollars? haha)

So, all that said as to why the last few days have gone like they have, I shall now put a picture on here with how I feel about it all. It is a reminder that it could be like this outside and for me to SHUT UP about 65 degrees!

And of course the picture went to the top where I didn't want it. Oh well, a fitting end to this post of negativity. I hope to be more smiling when I come back from a weekend of fishing and relaxation...although we know camping isn't always fully relaxing. I'm going to enjoy spending time with my Fiance and my son. :) :) Lets hope the campsite is not directly next to one of my Fiance's ex-bro-in-law. Yes, that freakishly happened last time. So it cannot happen again, right?

Grape Kool-Aid

Taken at the Rose Gardens in Minneapolis, my Fiance' commented that the color of these reminded him of watered-down grape Kool-Aid. I love their antique look. My mother told me that my sister had this color for the flowers at her wedding, which actually took place at the Rose Garden area. I'm gonna have to look up those pictures and see! The color is rare, that's all I know.

LOON

Too bad I couldn't get this Loon looking our direction...but I tell you, one of the highlights of our trip for me was listening to the sound of the Loons calling to each other across the lake. This Loon was around a couple of other adults, but we also saw a set of parents & babies. They were so close to the boat we could see them feeding the young. Very beautiful.

Teeth

Since Dusty Lens mentioned the teeth on these things in yesterday's comments, I thought I'd
post this photograph next. He's right, and my Fiance' did warn me of that when he was taking this fish off its hook. I don't think I'll be attempting to take one of these off anytime soon !

Nets and Clouds

Last week was so busy I never got a chance to blog. Over the weekend we got on a camping trip to Crosslake/Upper Whitefish chain area about 3 hours north of the Twin Cities.
The weather was strange. Hot and toasty one minute and downpouring the next. The bottom photo shows the rainclouds in the distance that circled us pretty constantly while we tried to fish.
The fishing was great though, and we found a couple places my fiance' referred to as "the honey hole" (which sounds dirty to me but apparently is common fishing lingo amongst men.)
We caught Northerns, Bass, some panfish like Sunnies and Perch I think. I am proud of myself: I can now comfortably put my own worm on the hook, catch a fish, and then pull the hook out of its mouth. With a gloved hand, I stretched myself and ventured into pure grossness by loading a couple of leeches onto my hook as well. EWWWWW !!! Even with the glove its creepy.
But a goal was realized this weekend, and for some this is commonplace, but I never did it before. And that is this:
I caught a fish, and we cooked it and ate it within a couple hours of its catch. It was so awesome tasting! Fresh fish: nothing like it! I am a huge fan now. Wasn't for 20 years. Who knew all these things were within me and I never experienced them ? YAY, second chances!!
More to come this week of camping.

Smoke on the Water

This weekend at "Taste of Eau Claire" we had some Famous Daves ribs. They were incredibly good. The weather was not great- cool (cold, actually) cloudy. But a good number of folks showed up and we tried several different foods. The dessert was pie: Pecan and Strawberry...mmmm.
